In observance of Ronald Regan's death, Angi had Friday off work at the Post Office, so we quickly made plans for a three day weekend. We packed in the dark Thursday night since we had a power outage, and left 11am Friday. After a three hour drive, and a five hour hike, we made it to Snowmass Lake just as the sun was setting.
On Saturday, we made an attempt on the summit but were turned back by bad snow conditions near the top. The snow was very steep, and had begun to soften considerably. A 45 degree slope of wet, cohesionless, rotten snow is not a place you want to be.
We headed out Sunday, happy to return again to this wonderful place.
