Like many others who make their first trip to Colorado's San Juan Mountains, I was overwhelmed by this impressive mountain range. Easily as large as other Colorado ranges closer to home, the San Juans stretch from horizon to horizon with jagged towers and snowcapped peaks.
Angi had a church trip planned for Mount Wilson, but we missed the email regarding a change of venue, and found ourselves on a trailhead which passed through private property, and had recently been closed. We hiked up a bit anyway, but had a change of heart, and turned back, rather than trespass.
We drove over to the nearest peak, hoping the weather would hold. We started up Mt. Sneffels very late, at 10am, but made the summit by 1pm with the help of Greg from San Juan Scenic Jeep Tours, who gave us a lift up the 4x4 road in the tour jeep. We'll definetly be coming back as soon as we feel up to the seven hour drive again!
