May 2002: I wanted to try a more difficult 14er, so I figured there would be no better way to do it than to take somebody with even less experience. This must be a recipe for a good time.
I took my good friend April with me to the south side of Quandary Peak. As we arrived, it was looking quite dreary out, with harsh winds, cold temperatures, and threatening clouds. As we were cooking dinner, it even snowed a little. I thought we were in for a tough day ahead.
When we set out in the morning, it was picture perfect (as you can see from the photos below!) Although it was pretty cold, it was great weather. The climb itself was not too difficult, but there were some pretty exposed sections. By far the most exciting part was the glissade down the large coulior on the south face. 3,000 feet vertical in about half an hour!
Note: Sorry about the quality, I had to scan these with my printer :(
