June 2nd, 2003:   After some larger hikes around town, I decided Angi was ready for her first Fourteener. I chose Mt. Bierstadt because it is easy, and the drive is pretty short. Since it was early season still, I brought a lot of warm clothes, and boy was I glad I did. We learned a lesson about how quickly weather can change, and even when there is no threat of lightning, you still need to keep an eye on the weather.

Angi and I tried our first snow climb up the Angel of Shavano on Mt. Shavano. The snow was terrible, and chopping 400' vertical of steps in the dirty ice was not anyone's idea of fun. We made the summit and returned to camp exhausted. The last photo in the set is Angi's favorite summit shot.
