July 4th, 2003:   For the three day weekend, Angi, Brendan, Allison and I headed off to Browns Lake near Salida. Even though there is a 4x4 road to the lake, I would still recommend this hike. After four hours of uphill with heavy backpacks, we reached the beautiful lake. Allison and Brendan stayed in camp the next day while Angi and I summited Mt. Tabeguache. The next morning I was hauling fish out of the lake.

Angi and I attempted Longs Peak on September 28th, with the trailhead conditions reporting patches of veriglas, and recommending technical gear for a summit bid. Since I had communicated with some people on the Internet regarding route conditions, we decided to continue. Just before the ledges on the Loft Route, we encountered large amounts of ice, and turned back. Regardless, we missed the Diamond since the sun had not risen, but since we turned around, we got to sit next to the (icy cold) Chasm Lake. If you ever get a chance to simply hike to the lake, do it. I have spent many days in the backcountry of Colorado, and nothing compares to the view from Chasm Lake.
